Enterprise face recognition
Betaface
Betaface is a face recognition software vendor that sells a hosted API and SDKs for detection, recognition, attribute analysis and matching against a customer's own image set. It is a developer product with a public demo, not a web-wide face search: it compares faces within the images a customer uploads, and it holds no crawled index of the public web.

What is Betaface?
Betaface is a long-running small vendor of face recognition technology. Third-party listings describe its offer as SDKs, custom software development and hosted web services, with the API served from betafaceapi.com (SoftwareSuggest; OutSystems Forge, both checked November 6, 2026). The vendor's own site could not be fetched on that date, so the figures here come from those listings and are marked as such.
The important distinction for this wiki: Betaface is a face recognition toolkit, not a facial recognition search of the web. A developer uploads images, the API detects faces, computes descriptors and can compare a face with other faces the same developer has uploaded. Nothing is crawled, and there is nothing to opt out of in the way there is with PimEyes or Clearview AI.
What does the API do?
- Step 1
Detect
Find faces in a submitted image and return their positions and landmarks.
- Step 2
Analyse
Estimate attributes such as age range, gender, expression, glasses and facial hair; listings also mention ethnicity estimates, a category many regulators treat as sensitive.
- Step 3
Describe
Compute a descriptor per face, the vendor's equivalent of a face embedding.
- Step 4
Compare or search
Compare two faces, or search a customer's stored set for the closest faces, with a similarity score.
| Tier | Price | What it includes |
|---|---|---|
| Web demo | Free, no account | Upload an image, see detection and attribute output |
| Default API key | Free | Reported limit of 500 images a day |
| Paid API | On request | Higher limits; the vendor lists free evaluation of the paid version |
| SDK and custom work | On request | On-premise libraries and bespoke development |
Where does it sit among the engines on this wiki?
With Amazon Rekognition it represents the enterprise tier: components that other companies build products on. A consumer face search engine is one such product, made by combining a detector and embedding model with a crawler and an index of the public web, which the concepts section describes. Betaface supplies the first part only.
Questions
Can I search the internet for a face with Betaface?
No. Betaface compares faces within images you submit. It has no index of web pages.
Is Betaface free?
There is a free web demo and, per integration listings, a default API key with a daily limit reported at 500 images. Paid tiers are priced on request.
Does Betaface store my photos?
Images and descriptors submitted through the API live in the customer's namespace under the vendor's terms. Check the API terms for retention; they were not fetchable on November 6, 2026.
What is it used for?
Developer projects that need detection, attribute estimation or matching against a known set of faces, such as photo organisation or access control, not web search.
