StopNCII.org

StopNCII.org is a free service operated by the Revenge Porn Helpline, part of the UK charity SWGfL, that helps adults stop intimate images being shared without consent. The person creates hashes of their images on their own device; participating platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, Bumble, OnlyFans and Pornhub, use the hashes to detect and remove matching uploads. The images never leave the device.

What is StopNCII.org?

StopNCII.org launched in December 2021, built by the Revenge Porn Helpline with Meta, which had run an earlier pilot in which images were submitted to the company. The new design moved hashing to the user's device: the service receives a hash, not the image, and shares that hash with partner platforms. The Revenge Porn Helpline itself dates from 2015 and is run by SWGfL, a charity founded in 2000 that also runs the UK Safer Internet Centre.

How does it work?

  1. Open stopncii.org and start a case

No name or account. You receive a case number and PIN; lose them and the case cannot be recovered.

  2. Select the images or videos on your device

They must show you, you must have been over 18 when they were taken, and you must be over 18 now.

  3. Hashes are generated locally

A perceptual hash of each file is created in the browser and sent; the file stays with you.

  4. Partners match and remove

Participating platforms compare uploads against the hash list and remove matches. You can check the case status with your number.

What does it cover and what does it not?

  • Covers: real and AI-generated intimate images of adults, including deepfakes, on participating platforms.
  • Does not cover: sites that do not participate, images that differ enough from the hashed one to miss a match, people under 18 (use Take It Down), and images on the open web outside the partner platforms.
  • Complement with: a face search to find where images have been posted on public sites, direct reports to non-partner sites, and the legal routes in the NCII removal directory.

Questions

Does StopNCII see my images?

No. The hash is computed in your browser and only the hash is sent. StopNCII and its partners never receive the image.

Does it work on deepfakes?

Yes, for AI-generated or edited intimate images that depict you, as long as you have the file to hash. A deepfake you have never seen cannot be hashed.

Which platforms participate?

The partner list is on stopncii.org and changes; it included Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Reddit, Bumble, OnlyFans, Pornhub and Snap on the date this entry was checked. Sites outside the list need a direct report.

Can I use it for someone else?

No. Cases must be created by the adult shown in the images.
